Wellega Farmers Earn 13.4m Br from
Fattening, Apiaries |
|
Over 13 million Br has been obtained
from over 10,000 farmers engaged in animal fattening in Horoguduru
Wellega Zone, Oromia Regional State, according to the Zone’s Animal
Resources Development & Health Office. Some 220 farmers engaged in
apiary development have also obtained 400,000 Br from the sale of
honey, according to Bayissa Lemu, office head.

Nearly 200 Farmers Earn 1.7m Br from
Corn |
|
Over 190 farmers in Limmuseka Wereda,
Imam Zone, Oromia Regional State, earned 1.7 million Br in income
from the sale of 2,153ql of maize from select seeds in this
Ethiopian short rainy season, according to the Wereda’s Agriculture
Bureau. The farmers collected the stated amount of seeds from 100ht
of land. Some 2,300 farmers have also received landholding
certificates in the Wereda, according to Jebelu Abbafita, head of
the Wereda’s Agriculture Office.

Awi Zone to Harvest 11m Quintals
through Irrigation |
|
Over 11 million quintals are
expected to be harvested from 8,700ht of land developed through
irrigation in Awi Zone, Amhara Regional State, this Ethiopian dry
season, according to the Zone’s Agriculture Department. Some 150,000
farmers are being provided education to engage in spice and
vegetable development as wells as grass pea, pea, barely, and wheat,
according to Teshale Ayanalem, the Zone’s Agriculture Department
Irrigation Development expert.

Less Than Half Expected Earned from
Honey, Cattle, Tantalum |
|
Some 1.1 billion dollars in income
has been secured from the economic diplomacy of export-earning
honey, cattle, and tantalum in the past six months of this fiscal
year, 1.5 billion dollars less than the corporation projected,
according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA). There is a plan
to collect 3.71 billion dollars by giving investment opportunities
to 156 foreign investors and 60 foreign investments in
manufacturing, education, health, and hotels in this Ethiopian
fiscal year.

Sugar Industry to be sweetened with
75b Br Injection |
|
Some 75 billion Br has been
allocated for the enhancement of sugar production, the construction
of 10 sugar factories, and sugarcane farming on 325,000ht of land,
according to the Sugar Corporation. Completion of the 10 sugar
factories will increase the production of sugar by 570,000tn, but
the country’s sugar consumption will increase to 2.2 million tonnes
and 181 million litres of ethanol per year, according to Shimels
Kebede, deputy manger of the agency.

Borena Scoring 16 Schools |
|
Some 16 schools are underway at a
cost of 13 million Br in Borena Zone, Oromia Regional State, in this
Ethiopian fiscal year, according to the Zone’s educational bureau.
Completion of the schools will accommodate more than 3,200 students,
increasing education access by 92pc in the zone, according to Jilo
Zida, supervision expert of the schools.

Simien Mountains NP’s Income Mounts
Again |
|
Over 2.3 million Br has been secured
from more than 8,600 tourists who visited Semien Mountains National
Park, Amhara Regional State, during the last six months of this
Ethiopian fiscal year, exceeding by 19,000 Br that of the same
period last year, according to the park office head. Out of the
total visitors, about 8,000 were foreigners who also visited such
sites in northern Ethiopia as the rock-hewn churches of Lalibella,
Emperor Fasilides’s Castle, and the Axum obelisks, according to
Sisay Mekuanint, head of the park office.

Adama Inaugurates Modern Adam
Executive Hotel |
|
A modern hotel commenced on 5,300sqm
at a total cost of 92 million Br in Adama, 98km from the capital,
was inaugurated on Monday, January 23, 2012. The hotel, which has
110 rooms, six conference halls, five bars and restaurants, swimming
pools, and recreation centres will create jobs for 150 employees,
according to Ketema Regassa, general manager of Adam Executive
Hotel.

SC to Build Recreation Centre at
96.5m Br |
|
True Way Capital Services SC is to
build a park and a family recreation centre on a 4,400km plot of
land around CMC area, at a cost of 96.5 million Br, according to the
company. Some 50 million Br has been collected from the sale of
shares. The company envisions collecting 38pc profit, annually, from
the centre, according to Bekele Eshete, general director of the
board.
