Hawassa Hands over 675 Homes

 

Some 675 condominium houses built at a cost of 200 million Br have been transferred to beneficiaries in Hawassa, 273km from Addis Abeba, according to the town's administration. There is a plan to handover the other condominiums undergoing construction in nine other regions when complete in March 2012. The construction has created jobs for 5,985 residents, according to Wondimu Seta, general manager of the southern Regional State Housing Development Agency.

Southern State Confers 1,670 Condos

 

Over 1,670 condominium houses constructed with 200 million Br in Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples (SNNP) Regional State have been transferred to beneficiaries, according to the state housing development agency. There is a plan to finish all of condominium houses and another 3,288 will be transferred to beneficiaries within the next two months, according to Wondimu Seta, general manager of the Housing Development Agency.

ROADS

Road Building Rages ahead in Gondar

 

Various road development projects are ongoing at a cost of over 85 million Br in Gondar, Amhara Regional State, 658km from the capital, according to the city’s service bureau. The projects include the construction of 1.8km of asphalt roads, 33km of gravel roads, eight kilometres of drainage, 21km flood canals, as well as 18.3km of cobblestone. The projects, which have created jobs for 1,000 unemployed citizens, were financed by the World Bank Group (WBG), according to the city’s service office.

Awi Animal Income Attains 159pc of Last Annum

 

Some 18,000 animal fatteners and breeders have collected an income that exceeds by 59pc that of last year from more than 42 fattened animals in Awi Zone, Amhara Regional State, according to the zone’s agriculture bureau. Out of the total number, 13,679 are cattle and 28,300 are goats or sheep. The fatteners supply their products to the newly established Bahir Dar meat factory, 477km from the capital and to the Sudanese market, according to Kumalchew Worku (PhD), a veteran expert of the bureau.

West Shoa Collects Half Million Kg of Honey

 

Over 25 million Br in income has been collected from 567,114kg of honey produced by 12,311 farmers from 12 weredas of West Shoa, Oromia Regional State, in the past five months of this Ethiopian fiscal year, doubling that of the same period last year, according to the zone's Animal Resources Development, Health, & Market office. The farmers produced 25kg to 40kg of honey from each modern hive and sold one kilogramme of honey for 50 Br to 100 Br. The per capita income of honey farmers has escalated from 8,000 Br to 40,000 Br, according to Tolera Debele, head of the office.

WATER

West Gondar Water Projects Well Up

 

Over 1,000 safe water access projects are ongoing with over 103 million Br in 21 weredas of West Gondar, Amhara Regional State, aiming to benefit about half a million residents, according to the zone’s development agency. Out of the total ongoing water projects, 630 are hand-dug wells, 250 are springs, 130 are medium-depth wells, and 21 are deep wells, according to Abraham Mengesha, head of the agency. There is a plan to increase the clean water coverage of the zone from 60pc to 70pc in rural areas, while, in urban areas, the plan is to increase the coverage from 86pc to 96pc.

Half of Jimma’s Health Stations Operational

 

Eight of the 16 health stations being constructed with 27.5 million Br have gone operational in Jimma, 346km southwest of Addis Abeba in Oromia Regional State. The health stations which are giving service for more than 115,000 people were financed by the federal and state governments, NGOs, and the public, according to Abera Aseffa, deputy head of the office.

Ambo Rakes in Redoubled Revenue

 

Over 15 million Br in revenue has been collected from various income titles in Ambo, Oromia Regional State, 126km from the capital, over the past six months, exceeding the target by one million Birr, twofold of the same period last year, according to the town’s Administration revenue Office. They are to collect over 24 million Br in revenue in this Ethiopian fiscal year, a statement by the administration claimed.

SC to Build Recreation Centre at 96.5m Br

 

True Way Capital Services SC is to build a park and a family recreation centre on a 4,400km plot of land around CMC area, at a cost of 96.5 million Br, according to the company. Some 50 million Br has been collected from the sale of shares. The company envisions collecting 38pc profit, annually, from the centre, according to Bekele Eshete, general director of the board.
