LOANS

Arsi Branch Loans Total 160m Br


Over 160 million Br in loans has been distributed among over 80,340 beneficiaries at the Arsi District Branch of the Oromia Credit and Savings SC, according to the district bureau. The beneficiaries, from Assela and Bokoji towns, 175km and 231km from the capital, respectively, are engaged in animal fattening as well as micro and small-scale businesses, according to Fekadu Worku, branch office manager. There is a plan to open new branch offices in Honkolo, Wabe, Gololcha, and Seru weredas in the current Ethiopian year.

Addis Abeba MSEs to Grow from 3,624 to 7,761

 

Over 3,624 members of micro and small-scale enterprises have been participating in manufacturing, construction, services, and urban agriculture with over 151 million Br in capital in this quarter of the Ethiopian fiscal year, according to the Addis Abeba City Administration. There is a plan to strengthen the enterprises’ savings, among other things, by providing over 118 million Br for over 7,761 small-scale businesses, according to the city administration.

Gondar Garners 6.2m Br from Beefed-up Animals

 

Over 6.2 million Br in income was secured from over 1,200 farmers from the sale of 6,900 fattened animals in Gondar Wereda, Amhara Regional State, in the last Ethiopian fiscal year, according to the wereda’s agriculture development office. There is a plan to enable farmers make over 8.3 million Br in profit from the sale of 9,000 fattened animals in the current Ethiopian fiscal year, according to Mekonen Afga’a, animal resource development work process coordinator.

Leather, Textile Exports to Earn Ethiopia $359m

 

Ethiopia is set to secure over 359.3 million dollars in revenue from leather and textile exports in this Ethiopian fiscal year, according to the Ministry of Industry (MoI). There is a plan to obtain some 206 million dollars from the export of value-added leather products and to finalise preparation to export finished leather and leather products this month, according to Melaku Taye, corporate communication director of the MoI.

Red Cross Gets 10 Ambulances

 

Some 10 ambulances have been purchased with over 1.5 million Br from a city administration loan for donation to the Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) for each district, according to ERCS. The office has already put forward three ambulances for Arada District, Kirkos District, and Bole District, according to Solomon T. Mariam, coordination officer of ERCS.

Harvest Expected to Total 2.3m Ql this Season

 

Over 2.3 million quintals of crops are expected to be secured from 12.6 million hectares of land this Ethiopian meher harvest season, exceeding by 15 million quintals the harvest as of the same time last year, according to the Central Statistical Agency (CSA). This is planned to be secured from cereals and oil seeds, among others, according to Samiya Zekeria, director of the CSA.

Addis Abeba Exhibition Centre Nets over Six Million Birr

 

Over six million Birr in net income was collected from international and local exhibition organisers at the Addis Abeba Exhibition Centre, exceeding the 675,000 Br of the same period last year, according to the centre’s marketing development enterprise. In addition to working towards promoting small-scale enterprises and the nation’s image through local and international exhibitions and trade fairs, the centre has a plan to collect about 14 million Br in this Ethiopian fiscal year, according to Tamrat Alemayehu, general manager of the exhibition centre.

Debre Markos University Surfs Wirelessly

Debre Markos University, which has enrolled over 18,000 students, now has received wireless Internet service, at a cost of over one million Birr. The service will help in conducting research and broadening the minds of students, according to Tewodros Bekafa, president of the university.

Yoe SC to Light up Addis Streets in 93.4m Br Deal

 

Yoe Industrial SC signed a 93.4 million Br deal with the Addis Abeba City Roads Authority (AACRA) to install lampposts on roadsides. Tian Zengo, manager of Yoe, and Fekadu Haile (Eng), company manager, signed the agreement, which will make it possible for the authority to install lampposts on over 11km of road.
