Animals Earn Bale Framers 13m Br
|
|
Over 3,000
farmers secured over 13 million Br from the sale of fattened animals
in Gasera Wereda in Bale Zone, Oromia Regional State, during the
previous fiscal year, according to the wereda Animal Health
and Marketing Agency. The farmers obtained the stated sum from the
sale of over 12,400 animals, said Awol Umer, general manager of the
agency. Modern technologies, provided by agricultural extension
workers, for crop production, alongside animal fattening and other
income generating schemes, have improved the lives of the farmers,
Awol said.

Gamo Gofa Gains 7.6m Br from Tourists
|
|
Over 7.6
million Br was secured from tourists who visited Gamo Gofa Zone,
Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples (SNNP) Regional State,
during the last fiscal year, according to the zonal Trade and
Industry Department. The stated sum was secured from over 135,600
local and foreign tourists who visited the zone, said Wondimu Weyke,
the department head. Activities will be carried out to identify
additional cultural, natural, and historical sites to double the
income this fiscal year, said Wondimu.

Addis Plans 38,300 Houses in 2010/11
|
|
In a bid to
address the acute shortage of housing units in Addis Abeba, the
construction of over 18,300 houses is underway, according to the
city Housing Development Project Office. About 76pc of the
construction on the sites in Jemo, Hayat, Bole, and Samit districts
have been completed, said Befikadu Assefa, deputy office manager.
The construction of the houses is expected to be completed by the
end of this fiscal year and preparations to build an additional
20,000 houses this fiscal year are on track, Befikadu said.

North Gonder Get Dev’t Projects of 8.7m Br |
|
Various
development projects that have been carried out at a cost of 8.7
million Br by the Organisation for Rehabilitation and Development in
Amhara (ORDA) in Denbia Wereda in North Gonder Zone, Amhara Regional
State, were handed over to the people of the region. The development
projects include the construction of a primary school, a health
station, and nine potable water projects. The executed projects of
ORDA were carried out upon the public’s request, said Baye Abera,
wereda chief.

Newly Built Schools Open in Arsi
|
|
A total of 42
schools constructed at a cost of 52 million Br in Arsi Zone, Oromia
Regional State, have already begun rendering services in the 2010/11
academic year, according to the zonal Education Office. Out of the
total schools that were built in 24 rural weredas of the
zone, 37 were primary and five were secondary schools, said Asnake
WoldeTadik, office head. The new schools have the capacity to enrol
10,500 new students, he said. The cost of the construction was
covered by government, nongovernmental organisations (NGOs), and the
public.

South Omo Licenses Investors Worth 149m Br
|
|
A total of 10
investors with an aggregate capital over 149 million Br have been
licensed in South Omo Zone, Southern Nations, Nationalities, and
Peoples (SNNP) Regional State, during the last fiscal year,
according to the zonal Trade and Industry Department. Investments in
the agriculture, hospitality, and construction sectors are to be
engaged, Belachew Alamrew, investment promotion coordinator of the
department, said. Upon becoming fully operational, the projects will
create 7,689 casual and permanent job opportunities, Belachew said.
About 104 investors with a combined capital of over 1.7 million Br
have been involved in various investment sectors in the zone since
1972.

Investments under Construction in West Gojam
|
|
About 112
investors with an aggregate capital of 87 million Br, are busy
constructing developments in Bure Town in West Gojam Zone, Amhara
Regional State, according to the town administration. About 19 of
the investors engaged in industry, hotel and tourism, trade,
education, and health have already begun production and providing
services, Mesfin Abeje, the deputy mayor, said. The investors were
provided with over 177,617sqm of land for their businesses that will
create 1,000 permanent and casual jobs when the projects become
fully operational, Mesfin said.

Liben’s New Vet. Centres to Boost Coverage to 79pc
|
|
In Liben Zone, Somali Regional State, veterinary centres constructed at
a cost of six million Br, have become operational, the zonal
administration said. The health centres have the capacity to serve
over 1.1 million animals, said Abdi Fetah, zonal administration
chief. There are over 1.9 million domestic animals in the zone,
according to Abdi. The health centres would enable the animal health
coverage in the zone to rise from the existing 20pc to 79pc, he
said.

Embassy to
Inaugurate Chancery, Residence
|
|
The Ethiopian
Embassy in Khartoum, Sudan is going to inaugurate a complex built
with an outlay of over 80 million Br. The Ethiopian Government
decided to create an asset in Sudan by constructing a chancery and
embassy residence building, according to Ali Abdo, Ethiopia's
ambassador to Sudan. The complex will also undergo a facelift.
