The drug smuggler was taken into custody immediately
after he was apprehended at the airport in
possession of 81 small packs of drugs hidden in his
stomach while he was traveling from Argentina to
Johannesburg, South Africa, via Addis Abeba. Federal
prosecutors then filed a charge against George on
one count of drug trafficking; he defended the
charge without a lawyer, while Asrat Bayabil was the
prosecutor in charge of substantiating the charge to
convince the court to put the South African man
behind bars.

Transport Authority to Automate Annual
Vehicle Inspections |

Come September 2009, owners of vehicles in Addis
Abeba and Dire Dawa will no longer deal with manual
inspections of their cars when going through the
annual inspection requirements. The Ethiopian
Transport Authority - a federal agency responsible
for regulating transport operations on roads - has
acquired three machines that will help it automate
the inspection process.
