Stranded Truck Halts Gibe II
Expansion Project |

A special truck carrying a 213tn electric power transformer
has been stranded for three weeks in Gibe wasteland, 198Km
southwest of Addis Abeba. The 22 axle trailer was unable to
maneuver through the narrow and twisted Addis-Jimma Highway
and stopped short of reaching its final destination, the
project site of Gilgel Gibe II, owned by the Ethiopian
Electric Power Corporation (EEPCo). |

The African Development Bank (AfDB) and the
International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private
sector arm of the World Bank that reopened its
office here a few months ago, have approved loans
worth a total of 110 million dollars for
Derba-Midroc Cement Plc, on Thursday, April 17,
2008.

Urban Development (MoWUD) to use Indian low cost
housing technologies. The delegation met Kassu
Yilala (PhD) and Arkebe Oqubay, minister and state
minister of MoWUD, respectively on April 16. |

A fire at Yod Abyssinia, a traditional Bar and
Restaurant on Cape Verde Street next to Desalegn
Hotel, on Wednesday April 16, totally demolished the
cozy restaurant in less than 90 minutes. The blaze
began with a faulty electric contact on the roof of
the restaurant and spread so quickly, fire fighters
were only able to rescue a fraction of the property.
