Imports Agriculture inputs |
|
Admas farmers’
Cooperative Union in Guraghe Zone announced that it has imported
agriculture inputs with 47.7 million Birr for the current production
year. Mekonnen Haile, general manager of the union, said that the
union is distributing 35,000qts of fertilizer and more than 300qts
select seed to be used during the small and main rainy seasons.
Admas Faermers’ Cooperative Union embraces 36 basic associations
with 12,000 members.

supplies 32,000 hides, skin to central auction |
|
The
Benishangul-Gumuz state supplied close to 32,000 hides and skin to
the central auction over the past six months. The hides and skins
supplied during the first half exceeded that of the initial target
by 7,000. It also showed a significant growth compared with same
period last year. Preparations are underway to expand animal health
service facilities and to offer awareness raising education to the
public.

Authority
launches road construction project |
|
The Ethiopian
Roads Authority said that it has launched construction of an asphalt
road covering 164.5Kms at a cost of 871 million Birr. Samson Wondimu,
public relations head of the Authority, said the construction of the
Mile-Chifra-Alewah road is being undertaken in two projects. The
first project, Mille-Chifra, covering 85Kms will be undertaken by a
Chinese contractor while the second project, Chifra-Alewah road
covering 79.5Kms, will be carried out by a Nigerian and a local
contractor. This road, which links the Afar and Amhara Regional
States, is expected to be finalized in a period of three years.

Lines Buys Guest House |
|
The Ethiopian
Shipping Lines S.C said it has bought a two storey building and
1,520sqm of land in Djibouti that would serve as guest houses for
Ethiopian Ship navigators and their crew at a cost of six million
Birr. The purchase of the building is expected to save hard currency
that would have been spent on renting hotel rooms. The company was
founded in 1964 and started operation in 1966 with three ships; two
general cargos and one tanker.

Office Certifies Sidamo Coffee |
|
The United
States Trademark Office accredited Sidamo Coffee Trademark patent
right, the Ethiopian Intellectual Property Office disclosed. The
trademark was granted after the Ethiopian coffee was examined and
determined to be in compliance with the requirements of the law and
with the regulation prescribed by the Director of the United States
Patent and Trade Mark Office.

Real Estate
Dominates Investment Projects Licensed in 2007 |
|
The booming
real estate sector dominated investment projects licensed in 2007,
where it accounted for close to a third of the total projects
registered during the year, according to data compiled by the
Ethiopian Investment Agency. Of the total 6,920 investment projects
licensed during 2007, 1905 are registered under real estate
investment. The manufacturing and the agriculture sector attracted
the second and third largest investment capital respectively. Other
major sectors that attracted investment projects during the reported
year include construction, education, whole sale and retail sectors.
