Bridge two weeks ago stretched by 20mm when a transformer
four times heavier than its carrying capacity crossed it.
The 213tns transformer with the capability to generate 540MW
of electricity was intended for the Gilgel Gibe II Hydro
Power Project that is being undertaken by the Italian
construction firm Salini Custruttori SpA.

Semi-Finished Leather Export Taxes Increase |

The Council of Ministers approved the draft tax
increase tabled by the Ministry of Finance and
Economic Development (MoFED) on exports of
semi-finished leather and leather products. The
draft proposal was endorsed without being sent to
the Trade and Industry Standing Committee as it was
decided that it should be approved before Parliament
resumes session. |

MIDROC Strikes Gold Big in Two
Reserves |

MIDROC Gold Mine Plc, one of the subsidiary
companies under MIDROC Ethiopia Technology Group,
seems to have finally landed a breakthrough gold
reserve finding in East Sakaro, Guji Zone of the
Oromia Regional State. The reserve, found after four
years of intensive exploration, is estimated to
contain 17,250Kg of the commodity. |

Seizes 1.2m Br Allegedly Smuggled Perfumes |
|
Perfumes worth over 1.2 million Br that were reportedly
smuggled into the country through the Addis Abeba Airport
Customs were finally caught by the customs police following
a tip two weeks ago. Subsequently, two of the three
inspectors at the check point that allegedly collaborated
with the smuggling of three pieces of luggage containing
perfumes went missing while one has been arrested. |

Renovation |
|
The Adama (Nazareth) City Administration is
renovating the town’s bus station with an outlay of
2.05 million Br. The compound of the Adama Council
located at the heart of the town is temporarily
being used as a station for the buses. |

SATCON Snags 328m Br Afar
Region Road Project |
|
The Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) awarded the
113Km Semera-Didigsala road construction project in
the Afar Regional State to SATCON Construction Plc.
Projected to cost 328.2 million Br, the project is
one of the 33 new gravel road constructions that the
Authority set out to install in pastoralist areas in
the coming three months. |

Sher Begins Leasing 200hct
Greenhouse |
|
Sher Ethoipia Plc, a company established by Dutch
investors, constructed a 200hct greenhouse for
flower and vegetable development at a cost of 40
million euros (540 million Br). The company has
started leasing this greenhouse constructed outside
Ziway, 163Km south of Addis Abeba, with 20
partitions to local investors interested to grow
flowers and vegetables. |

Authority to Split Sibilu, Gerbi Dam Project |
|
The Addis Abeba Water and Sewerage Authority (AAWSA)
is to split the Sibilu and Gerbi Dam Construction
project into phases concerned that it would not find
a financier for the over six billion Birr project
with a single lot. The Authority also is to revise
the study of the project and float a tender for the
revised undertaking. |

Kaliti Training Institution |

Tenager Yismaw, who has been the general manager of
the Mechanics and Drivers Training Institution at
Kaliti, has been relieved of his responsibilities in
a letter signed by Junedin Sado, minister of
Transport and Communications, two weeks ago, Tenager
was transferred to the Dry Cargo Administration as
an expert. |
