The New Year has ushered in new faces to the
Sheraton Addis' performing stage. American club
performers "Right On" are now serenading the much
frequented "Office Bar", an open space drinking hole
of the Hotel, although the group had its maiden
performance at the Gaslight stage on Wednesday, two
weeks ago.
The 10-piece ensemble has been attracting bigger crowds
since then at the beginning of their three-month
contract, with some boisterous jazz, funk and disco
vibes. Veterans to White House functions across the
Atlantic - last appearing on December 4, 2007 - the
hip group has replaced the three piece Teddy Mak
Band entertaining the big cats of the capital.
The reaction from the upper class of Addis Abeba is mixed:
There are those who are delighted to see an act
straying from the one-man band that has dominated
the city's nightclubs, while others claim the band
is too large to fit into that small area. According
to one partygoer, this is a band that is rather
suitable for a luxury cruise.
This is not at all too bad, some said. In fact, they are
pleased to see individual talent from each musician
and harmony of melody generated from the band at the
same time. |
