Shell Employee, Once a Believer, Now
a Cynic |
|
Dear Editors,
I read
with great interest your headline news story, “Labour Union
Sues Shell Over Severance Benefits,”[Volume 8 Number 396,
December 2, 2007]. It brought back unpleasant memories of
how I felt when I first learned of the change in policy and
what it means to my separation payment. I was stunned and
left completely devastated. The company where I worked for
so many years with my full commitment has betrayed me.

Ethiopia is not unique in its
uniqueness |
|
Dear
editors,
I read
your article “Coming to Ethiopia Blindly” (Volume 8, Number
396, December 2, 2007). I concur with you that any visitor
should be equipped with as much information as possible
before visiting a country but disagree with your portrayal
of Ethiopia’s uniqueness on the continent.
I have
serious reservations, at least about the tone, if not the
letter, of your column, which claims, that Ethiopia is not
part of the “negro experience”. If the term is meant to mean
the experience of black people through the ages and around
the globe, and I believe it should, then we Ethiopians are
definitely part of it. |

CBE’s Path to International Banking
Services |
|
Dear
Editors,
I read
your editorial headlined, "Is the Real Estate Market
Competitive, Not so Much" [Volume 8 Number 389, October 14,
2007], with interest. The attempt to blame the real estate
companies for the failure to provide adequate housing or be
competitive in building affordable housing for
middle-to-low-income families is misguided, without solving
the basic problem of the mortgage banking system in
Ethiopia. |
