Study Shows
Limited Seed Aid Benefit to Farmers
A two-year
study funded by IDRC and USAID conducted by local and international
researchers showed the benefits of seed aid for farmers recovering
from crises such as drought or flood is limited. The study claims
farmers receive identical aid again and again, and root causes are
not addressed. Abera Deressa (PhD), state minister for Agriculture
and Rural Development and leader of the study, called for increased
attention to the aid that has absorbed 500 million dollars since
1982. A workshop on December 10-11 will forward the findings from
the study.
