Able to inspire love, create political controversy
and splice Ethiopia's five genres of music with
style, he will return to the capital for his first
feature concert in three years. Much anticipated and
longed for by devoted followers who see him more as
an icon than a musician, he is sure to bring
excitement to any stage.
Teddy Afro will light up Ghion Hotel's garden next
Saturday at 7:00pm making a smashing return to Addis
Abeba. Organiser Brook Girma (Biggie), general
manager of MG Promotions, hopes to fill the premises
with 10,000 fans.
"The time is right for Teddy to return to Addis,"
Brook told Fortune.
Teddy last performed during the height of the
Millennium celebrations in Jimma for a full-length
concert and made a brief appearance in the National
Stadium on New Year's Eve. Before this, the most
recent concert in the metropolis was staged as part
of the 60th birthday celebrations for Bob Marley.
The new show, promoted by MG, Yiskal Entertainment
and Adika Tour and Travel, follows the artist's
latest album release, "Gizu Lekulu".
Though only featuring two new songs along with live
performances, the sounds may be heard around the
city blaring from small music shops or seemingly
causing drivers of the notorious blue and white
taxis to push on even faster.
All the hype follows immense popularity garnered
from his three previous albums, especially the last
two.
But now he and his band "Abugeda", fresh off the
plane from Chicago and Seattle last Tuesday, are
ready to make a splash next to Ghion's huge
fountain.
The 400 Br tickets went on sale yesterday at Adika,
Addis View Hotel, Fahrenheit as well as Ghion.
