Bringing Analogue Music to the Digital Age |
|
Digital
technology is one of the incredible achievements of the
recent past. The entertainment industry is a primary
beneficiary of the jump to an age where sophisticated
machines ease the hardships of the analogue system
productions. This industry is privileged with better sound
and picture .
Ethiopia, however, has only recently moved to the digital
era in the 1990s, enabling both entertainers and audiences
to be serenaded with superior sensory stimulation. |

Dawit
Geressu and Yonas Million decided to be partners in their
studio, Studio Ras Birhan, exactly a year ago. Two very
different artists, each with a unique way of viewing art and
the artist, came together in hope of creating a space where
they would be able to nurture their artistic talents and
create their art freely.
One year
into the process, on Thursday October 18, 2007, they opened
a month-long exhibition featuring selected paintings and
photographs from various series that they had done.
Featuring 31 pieces, the exhibition is something that is
innovative in the forum of the Ethiopian art circle. |

The Salesman of Second-Hand Ideas and Goods
|
|
Lela Art
Gallery has been described by many as the one real space in
Addis Abeba to properly display and view art. The huge space
with its high ceilings and never ending walls is a dream
come true for any artist who paints huge canvases. But for
most professional artists in Ethiopia, since space has
always been a problem, storing hundreds of canvases or
painting huge paintings may be impossible much of the time.
This was
the challenge that the 30-year-old Ermias Mazengia faced.
Opening his two-week exhibition on Friday October 19, 2007,
Ermias put up 46 canvases that filled the space beautifully.
The Salesman of Second-Hand Ideas and Goods, the theme of
the exhibition, best describes the art that is on display. |
