An 18 million Br hotel is now operational in Adama (Nazaret)
town of the Oromia Regional State. The five-storey
Dire International hotel was inaugurated two weeks
ago in the presence of Alemayehu Tegenu, minister of
Mines and Energy; Sisay Berhanu, mayor of Adama; and
other senior officials of the city administration.
Resting on 1,870sqm, the hotel can accommodate over
25 cars in its underground parking lot and 45 in its
compound, Getachew Gelan, owner and general manager
of the hotel, told Fortune. Of the total land
holdings of the hotel located off the main road
linking Adama to Addis, 400sqm was leased from the
city Land Administration for a period of 40 years
while the balance was bought from an individual
owner.
The hotel has 60 bedrooms as well as a meeting hall,
which can entertain 250. Launched in the aftermath
of the Ethiopian Millennium, Dire has created job
opportunities for 72 employees, of which around 48
are females.
“I have made my dream come true,” said Getachew,
maintaining that Dire would add value to the city
which is short of standardised hotels and
restaurants.
Getachew is also the owner of Dire Dawa Hotel, which
has been rendering services in Adama town for the
past 20 years.
Adama’s convenience as a recreational site lies in
its proximity to Addis Abeba, as one can drive out
in the morning, enjoy its warmer weather, and return
in the evening to the louder capital. Adama is also
only 25Km north of the spa town Sodere, a resort
more popular for day trips, as accommodations are
more numerous in Adama.
