Benefits to Free Markets |
|
Dear Editors,
As a
potential foreign investor myself and a representative of
several foreign investors, all of whom are interested in
starting joint venture projects in Ethiopia, I must draw
your attention to the level of restrictions on the types of
enterprises that a foreign investor can take part in
Ethiopia. I do understand that many of the restrictions are
in place to maximise opportunities for Ethiopian nationals,
such as import and export trading, as well as bakery and
pastry products, to mention a few. I have no issue with
these at all. |

Economic Policy for Energy Starved Economy
|
|
Dear Editors,
In your recent op-ed piece lamenting the failure of
inflation fighting measures by the government
headlined, “More Stabbing at Inflation in the Dark”
[Volume 8, Number 382, August 26, 2007], you point
out the economy’s need for “bitter medicine” and
advocate for the adoption of “contractionary
policies” so that the ability of “the invisible hand
to meet the needs of economic actors” may be
realised. |

Insurance Corp |

Dear Editors,

article “State Insurance Corporation Gets Acting Managing
Director” [Volume 8, Number 381 August 19, 2007] distorts
the contribution made by Tewodros Tilahun as former managing
director of the Ethiopian Insurance Corporation (EIC). |

Managerial Responsibility for Work
Culture |
|
Dear Editors,
I am a
regular reader of your newspaper and appreciate, among other
things, Nicholas Moyer’s analytic articles on domestic
issues. His piece headlined, “For Privilege of Trying Be
Only a Volunteer” [Volume 8, Number 380, August 12, 2007]
makes for an interesting read. |
