The much talked about and long awaited Millennium
celebration is now only a few hours away waiting for
the bells to ring.
As the time keeps ticking, since three weeks from
the day, Addis is already feeling the rhythmic
vibration of the holiday, with areas like Bole
becoming overcrowded. This is increasing every
minute as the presence of the Diaspora is heavily
felt in languages and styles heard and seen. |

New Flavours Shining in
Ethiopian Music |
|
When
Abraham Gebremedhin, a sensational Tigrigna singer,
entered a small room in CMC residential complex to
meet someone he did not know what to expect. His
friends brought him to that room to introduce him
with a man sitting in front of his keyboards.
Abraham, a relatively new addition to the music
scene, met with the man who has spent the last 20
years as a composer, arranger, producer and music
performer: Theodros Makonnen, aka Teddy-Mak.

Salome
was born in Washington DC where her father Yilma Deressa,
served as Ethiopia's Ambassador to the US and United Nations
(UN). Inspired by the doll collection begun at a young age
when her parents brought dolls from all over the world
through diplomatic travels, her company targets girls
between the age of eight and 16, hoping to spread knowledge
about culture. Graduating from Adelphi University in New
York with a degree in Fine Arts and then working for a
number of publishing houses, Salome teamed up with
Yeworkwoha in New York. |
