Hijacked Diaspora Discourse |
|
I would
like to thank Lulit Amedemariam for her article
headlined, “Change from Within” [Volume 8, Number 379,
August 5, 2007].
I have
lived in the United States (US) for over 20 years, and I am
very sad to say that the discourse among fellow Ethiopians
in the Diaspora has been hijacked by a very vocal minority
who many years ago werte disciples of Marxism-Leninism
working very hard to establish “the dictatorship of the
proletariat”. Today that same generation, a little grayer
and a lot older but not much wiser, has a new found religion
in “liberal democracy”. |

Diaspora Speaking Loudly, United |
|
Dear Editors,
This is in response to Lulit Amdemariam’s column
last week headlined, “Change from Within” [Volume 8
Number 379, August 5, 2007]. I have been reading her
articles to get a glance of a commentator on a
newspaper that supports EPRDF’s policies. It is also
great to hear what she has to say on different
subjects every week. |

Dealing with Bank Policy Through
Business Community Consultation |
|
Dear Editors,
I was
surprised to read a statement made by Justice Menbretsehay
Tadesse, vice president of the Federal Supreme Court, that
“mortgage is a form of guarantee denied a guarantee” when he
presented at the Sheraton Addis. I was even more surprised
by your photo caption on the front page headlined, “A New
Level of Thinking”, [Volume 8, Number 370, June 3, 2007]. |

Making Quality, Not Quantity
Educational Success |
|
Dear Editors,
Taken
at face value, the last decade has registered a spectacular
achievement in education, a crucial area of national
development. This quantitative development has no parallel
in the history of higher education in the country. |
