Exercising Caution for Neutrality,
Independence |
|
Dear
Editors,
In the
story headlined, “The Accidental Men” [Volume 8, Number 378,
July 29, 2007] in which you had an interview with me and
Ayele Chamiso on the current political situation of the
country, in particular, the Coalition for Unity and
Democracy Party (CUDP), the headline neither describes the
article that follows, nor the interview I gave. |

Alternative Route to CUDP Ownership |
|
Dear Editor,
The story headlined, “The Accidental Men” [Volume 8,
Number 378, July 29, 2007] was informative, but it
lacked completeness in at least one important
respect: The ownership of the CUDP.
You
have reported that the CUD (Kinijit) leaders can come
back to action if they join the Temesgen-Ayele group,
thereby legitimiaing their act. And then get elected by the
general assembly, or form their own political party,
abandoning the name CUDP altogether. You seem to be arguing
like the National Electoral Board (NEB) and other EPRDF
associates. |

Education to Produce Technical
Competence |
|
Dear
Editors,
In the
“My Opinion” column headlined “Ostrich Economics” [Volume 8,
Number 379, July, 22, 2007] Nicolas Moyer’s arguments were
clear and well-versed. |

Pragmatic Political Manoeuvring
|
|
Dear
Editor,
I
disagree with the statement made in last week’s editorial
[Volume 8, Number 377, July 22, 2007]: “The pardon is an
example of the checks in the constitutional order that allow
the executive branch to intervene when the judicial branch
is not sufficient to take into consideration the extent of
its actions’ implications.” |

Centre Defends Efforts for Rural
Energy Development |
|
Dear Editor,
This
letter refers to the story published in Fortune
headlined “Rural Energy Centre Failing to Generate Valued
Ideas” [Volume 8, Number 370, June 3, 2007]. We wish to
rectify some of the misconceptions and also clarify other
issues raised in the story.
