Maritime Authority to Invite Private Multimodal Ops |

The Ethiopian Maritime Affairs Authority (EMAA)
produced the bill, which requires potential
multimodal transport operators (MTOs) to be
established with a capital of at least 10 million
Br, to encourage competition between private
operators and the Ethiopian Shipping Lines (ESL),
which currently is the sole operator. The potential
operators are also required to have at least two
agents in at least two foreign countries.

The hotel is one of three state owned properties for
which Bazeto had made winning offers. It won
Ethiopia Hotel and Addis Abeba Bottle and Glass
Factory offering 91.7 and 60.9 million Br,
respectively, in December 2009. Its offer of 187.8
million Br for Akaki Metal Products Factory was also
accepted in May 2010. However, the company settled
the required 35pc down payment only for the bottle
and glass factory on October 2, 2009, and for the
metal factory and May 15, 2010.
