A WALK TO REMEMBER!

Members of Parliament make their way out of Parliament on Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at the end of its 5th special session, marking the end of the third Parliament’s tenure. For most opposition MPs, this is the last time they will walk the halls of Parliament for the next five years and, for some, perhaps, ever. The outgoing Parliament includes the largest number of seats ever won by opposition MPs, 32pc of the 547 seats. This Parliament will also be remembered for the largest average inflation rate in the country is history, at 45.2pc in 2008/09; approving troops to be sent to Somalia; approving the largest budget ever, at 77.2 billion Br; and passing three controversial laws, includingthe antiterrorism law, media law, and charities and societies law. Opposition MPs walk out knowing that the next Parliament will be virtually homogeneous, with all but four seats held by the incumbent and its affiliates. Some popular faces from the opposition camp made bittersweet comments in their last speeches of the outgoing Parliament about its performance as well as a few words of caution and goodwill.

Djibouti Sentences Prominent Businessman to 15 Years

A criminal court in Djibouti sentenced Abdourahiman Boreh, the self exiled but richest businessman from Djibouti, to a 15-year prison term and a fine of 56,000 dollars.
