Over 65pc of Oilseeds in Northeast Qualify as Quality

The Northeastern Branch of the Ethiopian Quality and Standards Authority in Dessie certified 14,791tn of oilseeds and cereals exported over the past nine months. Of the total products certified as quality, 9,623tn were oilseeds, according to Tamirat Habte-Mariam, head of the branch office. These are to be shipped to the Middle East and European countries, said Tamirat.

West Gojam Produces 5.3m Cubic Metres of Compost

Over 378,000 farmers in the West Gojam Zone of the Amhara Regional State have prepared over 5.3 million cubic metres of compost during the past nine months, to meet the growing demand for compost among farmers, according to Asrate Alehegn, deputy head of the Zone’s Agriculture and Rural Development Department. The compost will enable farmers to develop over 265,000ht of land, he added.

New 660m Br Hospital Facility for Jimma University

 

Jimma University Specialized Hospital is constructing a new hospital facility and upgrading its existing one at a cost of over 660 million Br, it said. The new hospital is to have 600 beds and other rooms for medical treatment and care of patients, said Chuhu Girma (MD), medical director at the hospital. The construction, operating on a budget allocated by the Federal Government, will improve the education offered to medical students and help to provide service to residents of the area.

Infrastructure Worth Seven Million Birr Underway in Axum

 

Several projects are underway in Axum Town of the Tigray Regional State at a cost of more than seven million Birr, as announced by the city's Trade and Industry Bureau. There are three projects funded by the city administration and international organisations, according to Tareke Kahessay, head of the bureau. The project includes a new shopping centre with six buildings, a cobblestone road covering 715 metres and 564 metres of tunnels. Some 240 youth organised in small and micro enterprises (SMEs) have benefited from the work generated by the project, he said.

Alleys at 19km Under Construction in Bedele

 

Construction and maintenance of over 19km of alleys is underway in Bedele Town, Illubabor Zone, Oromia Regional State at a cost of 1.3 million Br, as announced by the town municipality. The road is expected to be finalised at the end of the current year, explained Tamene Workineh, the municipality manager. The funds for the construction and maintenance of the alleys were allocated by the municipality, according to Tamene.

Over 12,000 Tourists Visit Simien National Park in Nine Months

 

More than 12,000 tourists visited Simien Mountains National Park over the past nine months, according to Maru Biadglign, head of the park. The park was registered as a world natural heritage site for being home to such endemic animals as the red Ethiopian wolf, walia ibex, and gelada baboon. Of the 12,000 plus tourists 10,754 were foreigners . More than 2.7 million Br was secured from the tourists.

North Shoa Zone Attracts 35 Investors with over 737m Br

 

During the past seven months, some 35 investors with over 737 million Br combined capital received licences in the North Shoa Zone of Amhara Regional State, according to the zonal investment office. The investors are to engage in areas such as agriculture, floriculture, hotels and tourism, mining, construction, and industry, said Yohannes Shiferaw, the office head. The investors have been provided with 150ht of land while installation of infrastructure is being carried out in the area, he said.

Over One Billion Dollars in Exports Show 22.5pc Increase

 

During the past eight months, Ethiopian exports have brought in over one billion dollars, according to the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MoTI). This income has shows a 22.5pc growth when compared to last year. Gold, oilseeds, coffee, honey, textiles, leather, and leather products contributed to the increase in export earnings, said Amakele Yimam, director of Corporate Communication for the ministry.

Embassy to Inaugurate Chancery, Residence

   

The Ethiopian Embassy in Khartoum, Sudan is going to inaugurate a complex built with an outlay of over 80 million Br. The Ethiopian Government decided to create an asset in Sudan by constructing a chancery and embassy residence building, according to Ali Abdo, Ethiopia's ambassador to Sudan. The complex will also undergo a facelift.
