Closer Look for Coming Election!

Thijs Berman, chief observer of the European Union Election Observation Mission to Ethiopia (right, holding up a piece of paper) caucuses with Agnes Doka, press officer, and Tony Reis, deputy chief observer of the EU. Their short talk allowed them to coordinate the information to be parlayed to the local and international media waiting to inquire of the team’s activities during and after the election. The conference, held at the Hilton Hotel on April 16, 2010, conveyed the team’s observation and analysis criteria. The degree of freedom of political parties and candidates to assemble and express their views as well as the degree of impartiality shown by the Electoral Board are factors that will be considered, Berman told Fortune. Fairness in access to the state’s resources, private and particularly state media; respect for the universal freedom of voters; conduct of polling stations, and the vote counting process of the votes are the major assessment criteria the EU observation team will focus on, according to the chief observer. No other observer, beyond this trio, is allowed to make comments or give official statements to the media regarding the process of the election.  PLEASE SEE THE FULL STORY
