The National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) is
to launch its website later in February 2010 as part
of the Public Relations Department’s preparation for
the upcoming elections this May.
The website,
www.electionethiopia.org, with content in
Amharic and English, will be launched at a ceremony
at the Sheraton Addis within the coming two weeks, a
source on the board said.
The website has incorporated directives that were
issued by the board to regulate the actions of
different players in the election. The logos of the
competing political parties, election districts and
a countdown timer to the election date are also to
be included. Visitors can subscribe to e-newsletters
as well as submit their comments online.
“We hope to bring continuous updates,” Mohammed
Abdurahman, Public Relations head told Fortune.
“Currently we are using different media to
disseminate the information we want, but once we
launch the website, we will be able to do it from
there.”
The website is developed by Clear ICT Solutions,
which has been working on it for the past six weeks.
It has also been uploading contents, which included
news articles and election directives and
regulations. The company declined to disclose how
much it was paid. Six other companies had offered
their tenders.
Established five years ago with a capital of 10,000
Br, Clear ICT now has a capital of nearly one
million Br, according to Erkyel Aklu, general
manager of the company. It is also the agent for
Wave Tec Private Limited, a Pakistan based company,
which is to supply the Ethiopian Commodity Exchange
with 154 price tickers or electronic display boards. |
