CONSTRUCTION

Tirunesh Beijing Hospital Well in Progress

 

The construction of Tirunesh Beijing Hospital launched in Akaki Kality District is well in progress, the Addis Abeba Health Bureau reported. The construction work is 25pc complete, according to Wondimu Denbu, bureau representative. The Chinese Government is to cover the cost for the construction of the hospital expected to be finalised within 19 months.

Youth Centres Begin Rendering Services

 

About 30 youth centres constructed in the North Shewa Zone of the Amhara Regional State at a cost of over six million Br have begun rendering services, the zone's Youth and Sports Department said. The centres were constructed in 24 towns and 12 rural areas that include, among others, sports facilities, assembly halls, libraries, information centres and cafeterias, according to Gera Eshete, department expert. The cost of the centres was covered by the government, NGOs and the public, he said.

Projects Launched Worth 18 m Br

 

Various social service providing facilities have been under construction in the Bench Maji Zone of the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Regional State (SNNPR) at a cost of 18 million Br, according to the zone's Finance and Economic Development Department. Some 50 health, education, road and other public service-providing facilities were under construction across 10 weredas of the zone, said Zebedehari Teka, department head. Over 70,000 people in the zone have become beneficiaries from the various social service facilities constructed during the previous year at a cost of 11 million Br, according to the head.

Administration Apportions 8m Br Loan

 

The Burayu Town Administration has been apportioning an over eight million Birr loan among beneficiaries engaged in micro and small-scale enterprises (MSEs), it stated. 1.2 million Birr has so far been distributed among the beneficiaries, according to Berhanu Regassa, Culture, Information and Publication Relations Section head within the administration. The administration has been offering relevant training and technical support to the beneficiaries.

East Gojam to Harvest over 19m ql

 

Over 19 million quintals of grain is expected to be harvested from 529,308ht in the East Gojam Zone of the Amhara Regional State. Farmers in Debre Elias, Basoliben and Gozamin weredas have covered their farms with sesame, according to Getnet Mengesha, the zone's Agriculture and Rural Development Department head of the East Gojam Zone in the Amhara Regional State. Farmers in other weredas have also covered their farms with teff and wheat, he said.

Company Developing Palm Oil Trees

 

Italy's Enel Green Power Share Company has reportedly begun developing palm oil trees at a cost of 320 million Br in the Dasenech Wereda of the South Omo Zone of the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Regional State (SNNPR) this fiscal year. The development activity is underway on a plot of 30,000ht including harnessing the Omo River, according to Belay Metekiya, head of the wereda's Investment and Promotion Office. The palm oil development activity has created job opportunities for 3,000 pastoralists, according to Belay. The company will also construct health and education facilities for pastoralists of the area.

Six Invest 25m Br in Filtu, Somali Regional State

 

Investors with a combined capital of over 25 million Br have begun various investments in Filtu Town of the Liben Zone. The six investors were granted land to engage in crop development, animal husbandry, flour milling, hotels and fuel stations, said Abdi Abdulkadir, mayor of Filtu Town.

Residents Pledge over 16m Br for Amhara Development

 

 

Residents in the North and South Gonder zones of the Amhara Regional State pledged to donate over 16 million Br in support of the Amhara Development Association (ADA). Residents living in 52 weredas of the zones pledged to donate the sum during a fundraiser launched over the last month, according to Daud Nuriye, north-western area state office manager of the association.

Dev't Projects Worth 80m Br to be Inaugurated

   

Some 784 development projects carried out with an over 80 million Br budget are set to be launched in the Arsi Zone of the Oromia Regional State.  About 500 of the projects in areas of health, water, education, agriculture, roads and environment are completed, according to Kibebe Yadeta, coordinator of the Planning, Budget Monitoring and Evaluation Process at the Zone's Finance and Economic Development Office. The development projects, being carried out in 26 weredas of the zone, are expected to benefit about a million people.
