COP-15 BOTTOM-LINE

The balance sheet from the climate talks held in Copenhagen, Denmark, has not been made clear. Several advocates for a multilateral deal, including Prime Minister Meles Zenawi’s close friend Jeffrey Sachs (PhD) were disappointed with the outcome. They described it as a deal that was fait accompli and an empty promise for the developing world. Meles begs to differ. He argues that his bottom-line was a mixed result. Africa did not get all it wanted; however, the African negotiating team led by him, comprising 10 members, returned with neither with false hope nor empty promises. This time around, it was different, he argued during a press conference he gave on Thursday, December 24, 2009.
