Zone Collects over 12m Br Revenue

 

More than 12 million Br has been collected revenue in Guji Zone of the Oromia Regional State during the current Ethiopian fiscal year. The revenue was collected from tax and non-tax income titles. The stated sum collected in the reported period exceeds that of the amount collected last year during the same time period by seven million Birr.

EDUCATION

Zone Earmarks 20m Br for Education Quality

 

Over 20 million Br has been earmarked for the execution of the education quality package carried out in the North Gondare Zone of the Amhara Regional State, according to the zone's education bureau. The money will be allocated for the programme to be carried out in 1,784 schools in the zone. The regional state has offered the fund in view of ensuring education quality in the area. The zone has over 725,000 students attending classes in different educational capacities.

Ethiopia Secures 5.4b Br in Loans, Aid

 

Ethiopia secured new loans and aid amounting to over 5.4 billion Br from various sources over the past three months. According to the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, over half a billion Birr and close to 4.94 billion Br was secured in loans and aid, respectively. OPEC's Fund for International Development, the International Fund for Agriculture and Development (IFAD) and the United Nations Development Programme are some of the multilateral institutions that extended loans and aid provisions to Ethiopia.

Almeda Clinches Multimillion-dollar Contract from Major US Buyer

 

Almeda Textile, a member of the Endowment Fund for the Rehabilitation of Tigray (EFFORT) group secured a multimillion-dollar contract from major US apparel buyer, Atlas Manufacturing Group (AMG). The contract, which at the initial stage involves the production and shipment of over one million units of T-shirts, kitchenware and uniforms, is expected to earn Almeda between 20 and 30 million dollars in annual revenue. AMG buys apparel worth 400 to 500 million dollars per year while it is expected that it will purchase up to 30 million dollars from Ethiopia in 2010.

Enterprise Pulls in 103m Br from Coffee Market

 

The Ethiopian Grain Trade Enterprise (EGTE) has reportedly obtained over 103 million Br in revenue during the first quarter of the current Ethiopian fiscal year, according to Brehane Haile, general manager of EGTE. The stated sum of revenue was collected from the sale of 34,504ql of coffee that was exported to the various international markets. The enterprise also has plans to supply over 75,000ql of coffee to foreign markets and 25,000ql to local markets during the current Ethiopian fiscal year, according to the general manager. EGTE began coffee exports in March 2009.

Wereda Gets 11m Br for Hospital

 

The construction of a hospital at a cost of 11 million Br has been finalized by the Yabelo Wereda of the Borena Zone of the Oromia Regional State. The hospital which is expected to benefit over 100,000 people has several wards including emergency, surgical and laboratory. Preparation is well underway to equip the hospital with essential pharmaceuticals.

Wolkite Town Gets 17m Br Hotel

 

A 17 million Br hotel has been constructed in Wolkite Town of the Gurage Zone of the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Regional State. The new hotel, constructed by Seyefu Alemayehu and his family, has 33 bedrooms with a restaurant and other hotel facilities. While inaugurating the hotel, Abbas Mohammed, head of the zone's administration said that his administration is ready to assist those who are engaged in the businesses of hotels and tourism.

Scooter Manufacturing Company Begins Production

 

The Bahir Dar Motors Assembling S.C. constructed at a cost of over 50 million Br has begun assembling sample scooters. The company has begun assembling 13 types of two and three-wheel scooters. The launching of their production was announced when Girma Birru, minister of Trade and Industry and Ayalew Gobeze, president of the Amhara Regional State paid a visit to the area. The company was established on 20,000ht of land with a goal to assemble 20,000 scooters annually including 24 different types.
