Ed Stelar Trading, a private company engaged in the
automotive business is to organize the 6th
International Automotive Fair (IAF) at the Addis
Ababa Exhibition Center from June 18, 2009 to June
22, 2009, its officials disclosed.
Ed Stelar has been the only company organizing a
specialized international automotive fair in
Ethiopia since 2004.
Its motto "Follow the rules and Stop the Damage"
conveys a serious message to drivers and pedestrians
in order to instill an awareness about the life and
material damages caused by traffic accidents due to
improper driving and road use .
In the preceding five years, the fair grew to be one
of the systems that supports the industry as well as
the economy in general.
The fair has afforded many auto companies and
related entities, such as manufacturers, assemblers
and importers of tyres and spare parts. It has also
given operators of fuel stations, garages and other
automotive related service providers access to the
market where they can reach a large number of
consumers at one spot.
"We did not arrange much promotional works for this
international automotive fair since we were working
on the boxing promotion - of the American Evander
Holyfield and Ethiopian Samuel Rata to be held in
July this year. This has taken our time away from
working on the fair," Pawolos Alemayehou, public
relation officer at the company, said during the
press conference held on June 12, 2009 at
Intercontinental Addis Hotel.
Regardless of its being late for the event, the
company is still proceeding with plans to host the
trade fair. The fair's agenda is to provide
consumers and exhibitors with information of the
products on display and to exchange information and
experience from displayers.
The unexpected collision of the financial crisis has
dropped off much of the international participants
from Europe and Asia for the trade fair. The crisis
has had direct impact on local participants as well
since they need imported goods for the trade fair
which is also linked to foreign currency. However,
some international participants from Sudan and Iran
will be at the fair, the officer said.
The trade fair will allow partakers both from local
and international markets to show off their
products, Tamirat Admasu, general manager of the
Addis Ababa Exhibition Centre, told Fortune.
Though the financial crisis has already put its
impact on the fair, there would be a reasonable
figure of partakers and consumers, according to the
Public Relations Officer of ED Stelar Trading Plc.
The spot is on preparation for participants to
exhibit their products in three pavilions and under
the shade of tents in the premise of the Exhibition
Centre, Tamirat explained.
